GET TO KNOW US

My name is Jack Schott. I’m the founder of The Undeclared.

Quick Career Facts

2012

Got an engineering degree because my dad told me to.

2014

Traveled the US for 2 years researching summer camps - this is where I unknowingly discovered being undeclared

2015

Started and ran an awesome sleepaway camp in New York - this summer they had 170 kids at a time! I stopped running it in 2021. In the camp world I also ran a community for hundreds of camp directors and every year I speak to thousands of camp staff across the country. I love summer camp staff.

2021

Got lost. I have spent the last few years as a corporate facilitator and coach. It pays really well, the people are amazing, and I learn a ton, but I miss building. Here is me in my business costume speaking to family business owners in South Dakota. Half of conventional success is knowing what costume to wear.

Being Undeclared is about owning the uncertainty, getting rid of the shoulds, and helping you move forward. For me it is about admitting that I don’t know what I want to “be for the rest of my life” or “what I am going to do when I grow up” and also not just sitting around waiting.

Being Undeclared is saying - I don’t know right now and I am going to find out. Leaning into action without feeling trapped by the rest of your life. How would I know if I want to be a lawyer I don’t even know what that means!?

Most websites, books, insta accounts I read about careers fall in two big buckets.

Follow your heart, find your passion, do what you love or be practical, get a job, follow the safe path.

ut what if I don’t really know my passion and think the safe path isn’t for me?

I am a dreamer and an engineer. How can I practically find my dreams?
